Example wording for various circumstances
|
The list that follows contains many suggestions for the wording of your wedding invitation for many different circumstances. There are different choices available to you when wording the inserts of your wedding invitation. Although traditional wordings are still very popular, many couples prefer to use their own to perfectly suit their occasion.
Traditionally the invitations are sent by the hosts of the wedding (traditionally the bride's parents). The wording of your wedding invitation insert becomes slightly more complex if the bride's parents are no longer married, or the hosts are another family member.
If you wish to follow tradition then the wording of the insert is dictated by the formality of your wedding and who the hosts are. A traditionally worded invitation insert follows a set pattern:
the invitation is usually written in the third person
the time and date should be written first and the venue last
titles are used ( eg. Dr, Mrs etc.) Where appropriate
'The honour of your presence' (usually used in religious ceremonies such as a church wedding) or 'The pleasure of your company' is the normal choice of wording (a ceremony in a non-religious venue)
the bride's name should appear before the groom's
Generally, names, times and places are placed on separate lines
